Fight the No. 1 killer of women... Heart Disease, during American Heart Month. American Heart Month is in the month of Feburary. The facts are clear. More women die of heart disease than all forms of cancer combined. There isn't a clear reason for why more women die of heart disease than men. But here are some facts about this life threating disease:
  • 42% of women who have heart attacks die within 1 year, compared to 24% of men.
  • Worldwide, 8.6 million women die from heart disease each year, accounting for a third of all deaths in women.
  • Stroke accounts for more deaths amoung women than death.
  • More than 90 million Americans have high cholesterol, a contributor to heart disease.

Here are some ways to protect yourself:

  1. Foster mutually supportive relationships with friends, family, and co-workers.
  2. Get regular exercise. It’s good for the heart, reduces anxiety and depression, and improves sleep.
  3. Limit intrusions (such as work-related e-mails) on your life outside of work.
  4. Practice relaxation techniques, such as meditation, deep breathing, progressive relaxation, or visualization.
  5. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, seek help from a mental health professional.

Remember not everyone is in a big risk of getting Heart Disease
